Couple of questions for you?

1-How many miles were on the engine and did you have to have the crank turned? Im asking this to see if after a certian amount of miles cranks need to be turned or if they hold the tolerances? If you through a rod or spun a main, this question is moot!!

2-These cranks are forged cranks right? and not cast?

Do a quick check on the journals with the ford spec sheet also check for out of round. ie mic 90 degrees out. Otherwise I just put new std bearing in and run them. Have rebuilt 5 so far with no problems. I balanced the last two and didn't feel any different, by the butt meter.lol

the ONLY way to know, whether you can run STD bearings, is to measure it LOL..

we build about an engine a month, and 75% of them have cranks that *could* have been left STD...but we usually go ahead an turn them 010 under so that the journals will be dead nuts round...

same reason we typically overbore the cyls to 020...even though 010 *might* have been in spec...(roundness/taper, etc)

there really isn't any reason to not have chit dead nuts perfect...if you have a good machine shop.

Even then, you really need to have chit measured to the nearest ten thou before and AFTER machine work...don't assume anything.
