My grandpa gave me his old trailer that he extended and converted to a gooseneck from 5th wheel and it needs some work. It measures roughly 18'x8' not counting the neck.

It has mobile home axles on it now and when it was coverted it was converted for a flat bed so it looks like it may be a lil' low. So I was debating adding 4" drop spindle axles to lift the trailer up and an adjustable neck. The drop spindle axles I've seen are rated for 3500lbs.

I plan to haul appx 6 atvs on it at one time (3600lbs), My Dakota R/T (4000lbs), my 140 Farmall, and eventually a sled truck (8-10k lbs).

Should I consider different axles? Also the only thing I'm worried about lifting the trailer is how long of ramps I would need to safely load my Dakota R/T?

What are y'alls thoughts?

drop axles are not designed to be used upside down... there for, 4" drop axles are going to lower it 4".... best way is to get straight axles and mount the spring perches on top of the axle instead of underneith....that will give you the 4" you are looking for...

but they do make 4" drop axles all the way up to 7K rated...

i would get at very least 5200# axles if not 6K's..... ideal would be 7K's so you dont have to worry about bending an axle with that tractor or pulling truck...

To be honest keep an eye out for a good used 24 ft. Your gonna have a lot of time and effort for something you won't be able to use for trucks. 18 ft will not fit a eclb truck worth anything. In the picture your tongue is raised on the left side.

Axles with brakes are fairly expensive plus tires and springs. Your looking at probably 2 grand right there. A new 24 drop deck trailer is only around 4000.

Just trying to save you some time and effort. I'd do what it needs to be road worthy and just haul quads on it for now.

As for the neck its just that one picture. Since this basically will be a atv trailer then would I be better off converting it to a pull behind or would it be cheaper to lift it?

I'd leave it and make sure the tires and brakes work and use the crap out of it as is for the atvs. Make a 2 sided gate for the back leave it low.

Problem with leaving it low is the neck is real close to my bed sides. I'd love to keep it low though.
