setting up truck for pick up camper ?'s

I am looking at buying a pickup camper and am wondering about tie downs on the truck itself, my truck is not set up right now and if I buy one before I set it up, is there a way to temporally tie it down until I get the truck set up?

Anybody?

This is as redneck as it gets but I used a heavy duty ratchet strap to hold down this old camper on my truck. Used chains to pull the back down with turn buckles to tighten.
I know it looks like crap and I will probably catch hell but this has worked several times running up I-70 with three motorcycles loaded inside.
(Yes I do have the proper hold own brackets to mount in the front of the bed and on the bumper.)
