Strictly diesel offers a kit for this.
It's a pre and post pump filter kit. 2 separate items. I have this done and it's much better

Can I ask why you guys are not happy with the stock fuel filter setup?

well i run some alt fuels.
for me it's too small, too expensive
and is a pain in my boills to change
4x4 with 35's and 6 in lift
the radiator is neck level
gotta get on a ladder to change the bastage

so you want to keep the bowl and just run a separate filter? You could do that, there may be room for a small filter base and filter where the factory bottle jack goes under the hood along the passenger side inner wheel well. then again you did say you didn't want it under the hood. You could probably run it as a prefilter so you don't have to run a line back from the engine compartment.

ahh ok gotcha. I got my truck used and changed the fuel filter in the bowl recently after 30,000 miles (not sure when it was replaced before I got the truck ) and it was pretty much clean as it gets so I was wondering if I was missing a flaw in the system.

I already did the FRX and HPX from Rif-raff for those deficiencies

Yea, it's a custom fuel system/ regulated return with a fuel bowl delete..

Do some searching, there are a couple write ups around here.. If you go DIY your going to be somewhere around 450 into it... If you go with a pre built kit I think it's double that or a little more.

I didn't delete the bowl but I went with a big ole Racor on the frame rail when I did the in-tank stuff. 2 micron and my normal fuel pressure is about 65-68 psi. With using that Racor I figure nothing should ever make it to the the factory filter.

My DIY RR and fuel system, complete with sump, is going to run me about 300. Take the sump out and I am only into it for 150 bucks.

Same here, well the intank mods were done years ago. I am holding off on the bowl delete for now. Dual super duty pumps.

Dave, to answer your question, get you a NAPA 4770 filter base and a Baldwin 3528 filter. Mount it on the frame rail after the pump. Done deal.

You can simply add a filter base and filter without a regulator. For the intank mods, besides Hutch and Harpoon, you need to remove the quick connects before the pump. They like to suck air.

Yes, you should do a regulated return, but it is not necessary. Leave the fuel bowl there, let it take care of your pressure, leave the factory filter there, with the spin on filter added in line down on the frame rail your factory filter will last a long, long time.

Sometimes bucks say otherwise. You can add a remote filter for about 40 bucks. For a regulated return, it is 100 bucks minimum, if you are not in a hurry. Usually more like 300 to 400 bucks.

Well, the regulated return makes it a not dead head system. Makes injectors so much happier.

did you do a write up on your DIY setup??? I have the FRX mod done on mine but have been thinking of doing the tank mods and if im getting into all that with the way I am I will just want to get in their and do a RR as well
