My buddy has this gooseneck hitch in his gmc. It's only held by 6 bolts and thin sheet metal. Do y'all think this is safe?

How much weight does he plan on towing? I personally wouldn't without any support under there. I would want at least a 1/4" plate sandwiching the sheet metal, minimum.

He just bought the truck like that. He doesn't tow anything. I guess I also should have asked if anyone towed with this setup? Could prolly take it off his truck and put it on mine for free.

No it is not safe......under ANY circumstance

This.

That's a liability like none other. He gets caught running down the road like that and he's gonna be begging for lube to ease the pain.

Tell him to call hidden hitch, or whoever owns them now(I think it's Redline) and get the frame stringers that came with it to begin with. Get those put in and he'll be good to tow up to its rated capacity.

You could build some with 1.25x 3/8 " angle iron and some 3/8" side plates. Mine bolts down with 2- 1/2" bolts per side.
