So I have the off road racing bug and want to start doing some sportsman 1450 class racing (non pro classes) and just have fun. I like to start my project thread during the planning stages to keep my thoughts kinda organized and get others input.

So for starters its going to be a RCLB 2wd truck. Going to have long travel I beams in the front with coil overs and 4 link or 3 link with coil overs in the rear. Going to stay diesel. not going to go crazy on the power with it to keep it reliable. And you guessed it, its getting a 6.0. Something around 500-550hp.

Truck is going to be steal cab and fiberglass everything else to keep with in the rules. Also has to keep the factory frame rails. Its getting full cage front to rear. I also want to do a full fiberglass front clip and get rid of all the factory body forward of the cab.

I have an idea of using a 4r trans and the PCS to have a manual shifter in the cab so I can bump shift it with a lever or have it in auto. Not sure how this would work yet its just an idea.

I traded coop one of my 4wd trucks for his 2wd he got a little bit ago for this project. It will fit perfect because it has had some questionable mods done to the suspension already. First step will be to strip everything. and I mean everything and start on the cage.

here is the truck

haven't decided on chrome moly or mild steel for the cage, but it will all be tig welded and probably take me forever to complete. I have a plasma table and going to be ordering a hydraulic tube bender to help with the fabricating.

All of these pictures are ones I have been saving over the past few months and where I hope to draw alot of my inspiration from.

Are you going to use the superduty innovations front suspension kit? I was going to go that route on my old truck before it got stolen and I bought a 4wd.

You will definitely want a manual shifter for the trans.

Garrett

probably getting paid at work to post this from my POS phone

That's what I figured. I know pcs has the Paddle shifter option but I think I would like a lever better. Ill know more once I get the 4r in the ranger going and learn more about the pcs. Ether way it would be better than a 5r.

I've been planning to setup a PCS with a ratchet shifter to utilize the manual shifting mode of the PCS or flip a switch to run full auto. I just haven't gotten to work on that yet.

I'm not sure how you'd make it happen with a gated shifter though. I was planning to make something happen with a B&M mega shifter or something similar. It would be cool to do it with a gated shifter, I just have no idea how to trip an electrical contact in the shifter like that. Cool project. I'm tuning in for this one.
