I'm about to take the first step of my compounds and thats modifying the 38r 1.15 exh housing for a 44mm external wastegate. Where to cut the hole to weld the flange to is my first concern, any ideas, pics or advice? Thanks in advance.

I really think you should get everything else mocked up and worry about this last. After everything is where it needs to be, then you know where it can fit.

Welding to the cast iron is hard. Its easy to crack it so you need to be a rather skilled tig welder for best results

Lots of heat. Weld a little then more heat weld some more. Always heard cooling in sand helps when done. Every cast piece I've weld has been to big to try.

Are those Garrett turbine housings cast iron - or are they cast steel? I know that the Hypermax mounting pedestal is cast steel from having to cut, grind, and weld on one to add a waste gate to it. I cut a slot right through the "HYPERMAX" lettering on the top and welded the pipe right in to the mount.
