first time I have got to use the damn thing and it doesnt work. I dont know jack about them, all I can tell you is its an Impulse with a slider button that reads E1 everytime I hit the brakes. Im hooked up through a 7 pin so I imagine thats all I would need...

Google says no connection apply brakes and check voltage at back of truck then you know which way to start tracing your blue wire it could be anywhere but for me and all the CRAP I work on it's usually a bad connection somewhere in the trailer

Does the trailer ground through the hitch? If so might check that also.
