Hello again,

I broke another damn flexplate..
Mikes diesel replaced the last one and it lasted about 9 months. The flexplate is still under warranty but the work is not. I did some research and the crankshaft spacer is different for manual to auto. The engine I put in had manual pins (1st/2nd flexplate) then I had a bad shop that was supposed to switch the pins to auto from my old engine but couldn't get them seated all the way so cut them flush and said it was good (3rd flexplate) then a couple grand later at mikes with a new torque converter, front seal on the trans, hardware, and they checked the engine adapter/bellhousing etc,..
So the only thing that is left is this crankshaft spacer.
How do I get it off?! I got the wear ring off it. Not seeing any other seems to attack or finding anything useful in searches. I can't keep driving it, can't afford a shop.. I have done the work before. Just don't want to use the usual "bigger hammer" method on my crankshaft.
Thanks to anyone who chimes in.

Nothing comes off of that. That is the crankshaft. Not sure on the groove in the crank. The only spacer is the one that goes on the back of the crank then the flex plate bolts to that.

Thanks for replying. Do you have a picture of the spacer you are talking about? I'm not sure I know what you are talking about?

I don't think that I have a spacer behind the flexplate that I can remember...

Doesn't show anything between the end of the crank and the flexplate does it?

Just shows a dowel pin in the back of the crank then a flexplate and that 10 hole washer on the other side of the flexplate

That's what I have... I guess I need to just take it all apart again and check everything over from square one...
Maybe Mikes screwed up something...

Attach flexplate. Attach trans, Before attaching converter to flexplate, push it back, it there is more than 1/4 inch between the two, you need to washer it out. If you don't, the flexplat will flex too much and break.

Thank you very much sir.
I'm taking it apart tonight and I will check that and see if the crankshaft moves in and out at all as well as check the bellhousing and engine/bellhousing spacer for cracks or warping.
What do you recommend for washers to make up the space?

Should I take the 10 hole washer/spacer to a machine shop and have them make a 10hole 1/8" spacer to put between the flexplate and crankshaft if theres a gap of 1/4" or more, or do you mean to just take 10 actual washers and put them behind each bolt?

Or are you talking about flexplate to converter? Or either... sorry for all the questions. Obviously iaintdatsmrt if I've been thru all this and it still isn't fixed. Just want to make sure I'm understanding. Thanks again.

Flexplate to converter, and yes, just plain washers.

If your crankshaft can move back and forth, you have much bigger problems.

Granted mine is a manual, I just put a new trans in last week, pulled my flywheel and no spacer between flywheel and crankshaft. All I had was the small metal ring that goes on after the flywheel and then you put the 10 bolts in. I dont see why an auto would be any different in this area, I feel a spacer between the crank and flywheel would only mess with where the starter lines up....
