Can SYNC be retrofitted into my 2006? Or is the cost/effort not worth it?

I wouldn't bother. Just get one of the newer Double din head units. Blue tooth enabled, can get pandora, slacker radio, run a ipod interference, blue tooth hands free driving. Plus can get gps set up on them.
