Does the 6.4 gear reduction starter work on a 6.0. Or can I just get a gear reduction starter ? I have had my truck for almost two years and not in goin on my third starter.

OEM they are both gear reduction the 6.4 is less of a reduction and spins faster

they both fit the 6.0 with no modification

just FYI i pulled my 6.0 starter off and bolted on a used low mile Ebay 6.4 starter at 100,000

i have never had to replace a starter i just did it for the spin factor

Same. I replaced my good OEM starter at 110k with a Bosch 6.4L starter.
Starts much faster- dare I say almost as fast as a common rail......

Good to hear. I have gone backwards to get one running but didn't notice that it cranked slower. Wonder how it will do in the cold!!?

I hear the 6.7 starter is even better on these as it spins faster than the 6.4 starter.

It bolts right up also but.. it requires a bushing on the lower hole.

Found out while trying to figure out if a 6.7 starter worked on the 6.4.

here is a huge thread over on fte on it with the starter specs 6.4 vs 6.7 vs 6.0 etc

That's interesting. I know my 6.7 sounds much different than anything else when starting. Just thought it was the engine change more than anything.

What's the bushing for? I take it the lower bolt hole is larger then the 6.0 bolt hole?
