Why does my 7.3 rattle sound so different using LE oil

Used to use Delo until Ford said that the CK was not a good choice. So I
bought some LE oil and changed it a few days ago. I know that the rattle
would lessen when the oil was changed with the Deli, but this is dramatic
with the LE oil. The loud single shots are much more tolerable even
when the engine is cold, it just sounds different overall.

Sounds like a question for @Jimdawg185.
I use LE 8800 in my Excursion and haven't really paid attention to the sound, the wife drives it mainly, and haven't needed to change the oil in my other 2 yet. Just don't drive them that much.

I also switched to LE. I keep the CCV vented to intake and I use a strainer separator to reduce how much mist is sucked into the induction system. After swithing to LE I have notice much less oil being deposited into the intake system. The quietness may be better lubrication to quiet the injector poppets? Just a guess.

The oils natural VI is higher. So you’re getting a more consistent ICP. More or less. Could be it cleaned something out as well. I don’t want the speculate too much. Would you say drivability is good still?

Drivability is the same, just completely different sound. I could hear the sound change
as I drove it after I changed the oil. Must have been when the new oil was getting pushed
out by the HPOP to the injectors.

Drove it 400 miles yesterday and runs just fine.

Wife says it is still too loud :)

I hear an idle tone change after every oil change. It's funny since the oil never has more than 4k or so on it.

You could have same fuel dilution even at 4K. So changing it at 4 is a good way to avoid issues.

Don't gain or lose any between changes so I'm sure it's very possible to have a little. May do an OA one of these days.

I usually have to add a quart between changes, have since it was new, figure it is
the breather and the oil ends up in the intake system. Will see how it goes with
the LE. I have heard that it may use a little more oil for awhile as it cleans out the
rings.

Pretty much. It depends on how coked up the ring lands are

But you don’t need it right? Being believing in oil being better then others is for simple minded people.

Lol

Well of course I don’t need it. Plenty of pieces go over a million miles on rotella
