Ugh, its just that price tag, I need those funds for all the "odds and ends", you think a BTS is better than a built Ally?

Supposedly they can. But I dont see anyone swapping in a built allison behind anything in high hp builds. Dont know if its because of the warranty or what.

It'll have a better warranty that allison
Thats for sure! And being 2hrs from brians shop, there wouldn't even be a question on what trans to go with.

Yeah, I want to get my hands on a 93 or newer model 360, I guess that is when they got "upgraded" with some better parts. In theory you can stroke a 360 to be a 466, from my understanding they are the same block. Does mr.fancypants rebuild them himself or does he know of someone? I know I'd have to get an adapter plate but I can get a BTS for less than 5k installed and the shop is only a couple hours from me, I really don't want to spend THAT much on a trans though, thats like over half my goal budget right there...

Nope they are not the same block. The 466 block is almost 4" (might be more) longer and at least 2" might even be 3" deeper. Have not looked in a bot but they are bigger! You might be thinking of the DT408 being the same as the DT466. Still not sure if the are though.

Interesting, so its just a lot of swappable internals then? Hmm, haven't looked at the 466 much but I know that they use a lot of parts back and forth. Maybe its was the 466 and 530? I was thinking of...

Alright, so we covered automatic transmissions, but, and this is just because I was doing some transmission reading on the 4BT site, what about some of the manual options like the fuller 10 speed or some road ranger variations, seems a lot of guys where putting them behind cummins and really like them. My main concern is it seems once you get into medium duty manuals, you are almost stuck with a divorced t-case, which I am not fond of. It's not like this rig will be doing a lot of offroading, mostly for snow days but I have heard a lot of not so nice things about them.

I have no clue if the 466 or 530 or the same block or not. I have not looked into that.

The 466 and 360 do not even have the same bore or stroke. So not sure how you can just swap internals around.

The 5.9L International DT360 has a bore and stroke of 4.010 by 4.751 inches.

The 6.7L International DT408 has a bore and stroke of 4.301 by 4.680 inches.

The 7.6L International DT466 has a bore and stroke of 4.3005 by 5.35 inches.

The 7.6L International DT466 BIG BORE has a bore and stroke of 4.5870 by 4.680 inches. This one has the same stroke as the 6.7L DT 480.

The 8.7L International I530 has a bore and stroke of 4.5866 by 5.350 inches. This one has the same stroke as the normal bore DT466.

Nah, they quit making 360's somewhere mid 90's. I guess they didnt want a heui 360. Youre rigjt about the 466's and such

That's sad, my first ice truck had a 360. Engine was a real workhorse and never left me waiting on a tow truck. You could really load her down and haul ice.

Really Jake? You have no answers for this poor fellar after seeing my build first hand...

dt360 is sae2 bellhousing with an sae3 adapter ring! Allison 1000 is direct bolt on using an allison 2000/2400 converter housing! Ask me how I know ;) dt360s are good for some serious hp! Stock bottom end is good for 1500hp at 5500rpm and stock head bolts will withstand 300psi of boost! I'm building one right now that has a modified 160hp p-pump on it, compounds and some more goodies going for 900hp. Downfall to a dt360 is that it doesn't fit without some firewall, core support and frame modifications! Dt360 is quite a bit smaller than the 408/466/530/570 (all those use the same block)
