2013 turbo issue

My old man's 2013 has 93k on it and the turbo might be shot, but just checking to see if there is something we can try to fix it.

When traveling down the highway it will just completely loose boost and will not spoil back up. Turn the truck off a little while and it will work again. It's progressively gotten worse and yesterday the truck shut down on us. It started two hours later and would build boost.

I can't hear anything abnormal

Is there anything I can check?

Check to see if it is throwing any codes. Is it making additional noises? It would seem to me that if the turbo is bad, turning the truck off for a couple of hours won't repair the bearings or a blown boot. It could be a few different things. Also, check the intercooler piping for a split pipe.

It's throwing codes but I don't have a reader.

I assume turbo is done or waste gate? I'm not versed in the 6.7 like the last two engines.

I was listening for escaping air and looked at the boots. No abnormal noises or visible splits

Step one: Read the codes, tends to take a lot of the guess work out.
