I personally know 3 different people it happened to.

Red fuel is #2 ulsd, no different than the green #2 ulsd at the other pump. It is dyed to designate that it is for off-road use only. The reason it is cheaper is because it does not include the road tax.

Some of the tractors used by farmers are in the large fractions of a million dollars so tractor fuel is not lower quality than road diesel.
