Hey what's up everyone I'm new to the page. I currently have a 2002 F350 diesel that's srw. I have a 10" lift on 40's. I'm looking to drop down to 38's due to the difficulty of getting load range E tires. I'm curious if I drop to 38's and keep the 488 gearing would that still be enough to tow and drive highway miles? Or is it overkill. Really trying not to have to change my whole set up.

Turbo is rebuilt, ATS trans and torque converter, AFE stage 2 intake, intake manifold, 4" straight pipe, mishimoto 37 row trans cooler and isspro ev2 gauges (trans temp, pyro and boost). Stock HPOP and injectors. Not going to replace those till they go bad. I have a toy hauler that I pull to the desert to go riding and camping. Pulled fine no problems. Obviously a bumper pull trailer

Just doing the math, it should be pretty good for stock power. It will be a tad shorter--Similar to 4.10s on a 32-33 tire.

U should really be looking at the weight raiting of the tire more than the load range. For instance a LT265/75R16 load range E will usually have a lower weight rating than a LT285/75R16 load range D, just an example. Usually the larger tire will handle more weight.

I have 4.10's and 38's and it could definitely use more.. I imagine 4.88's would be more than enough

I currently am running Toyo OpenCountry MT 40x15.5R20 on 4.56 gears. Rolling 70mph on the highways, rpms sit right at 1900-2000. The tires have a "D" Load ID, but have a Max Load rating of 4190 lbs.

I was looking into the maxxis razr 38x13.5x20. Load E are at a max load of 3970. I don't want anything less then an E range just because my truck wears the tires out way to fast. My load C nitto's lasted 9000 miles. This truck is my daily driver also

If you are concerned about ware you really should be shopping for tires with the highest UTQG raiting. The higher that number the longer they will last. A rough rule of thumb is if the UTQG is 500 it's probably going to last about 50k miles. If it's a 250 it will last somewhere around 25k miles and so on.

Let us know what you find, I wouldn't mind a 38-40 inch tire that lasts an ok amount of miles

So after 10 thousand miles with all the mods I can say the mishimoto trans cooler is amazing. Trans didn't get higher then 135 degrees F. The maxxis Rzr 40" load E tire holds up great and doesn't wear fast. I switched from the bulldog programmer to the hyper tech max energy and went from 10 mpg to 13. Hand calculated. Truck got 421 to a tank
