3745 miles. 12 states. 36' gooseneck trailer in tow. The truck did very well including going dropping down out of Denver into New Mexico going through a couple of mountain passes and traveling at a rather good clip of speed across the high plains. Admittedly the transmission did start to have some issues by the end of the trip and I did come the last couple hundred miles home in transmission limp mode..... at 65mph.... so I am not complaining. Time to refresh the transmission (that was built in 2007 and has 100K miles of compound turbos on..... lol).

I miss this truck. Sold it. New owner sold it. That new owner blew it up, stripped the cab off, and last I heard had big dreams of stretching the frame and installing a 6 door square body chevy truck body onto the chassis.

And life goes on. Sad, but that's how it works. You put a lot of time, cash, sweat and some blood into that pickup. I bet it was hard parting with it. Now knowing it's in the condition it is, does not help I bet.

I can't make myself sell my 97. First pickup for me. Plus I have a lot of time into it. Plan on doing a full restoration and doing a Allison swap. I have most everything needed to do the swap, but the transmission and, some plugs, and wire to make the harness. And a 4low sensor. I bet you could give a lot of good info on building a tough Allison.

What do you have now for a towing rig Jason? If it's in you sig, forgive me. I can't see sigs on my phone.

Why would you do an Allison???
Towing would be so much nicer with a 6 speed auto instead of a 4 speed auto. It comes down to the amount of gears available. Plus I can run 4.30 gears with the Allison and have the same rpms at 70 as 3.73 in the 4r100. Better for towing. Plus the Allison has a lower first gear, better for getting big loads moving.

It's got a zf6 now. So I can also start with a clean slate.

If I was building a play toy, it would get a 4r100. But I am not. So, Allison it is.

If there was a way to control the 6r140, I would go that rought. With the Allison I can use all factory IH parts to bolt it to a 7.3.
