While driving up and down some mountains with no load, my engine oil ho”was getting “hot”. Close to 250. Not sure if my oil type is doing it. Schaffer’s 20w/50. “Not my normal oil”. With my dual IPR block, I could take the bleed off return line and out that oil through a oil cooler. Just a thought I had. Any input?

There’s a pressure port on the filter housing I believe and you can route it back in through one of the block plugs. That seems like an oil I’ve never heard of anyone running in a 7.3 before

Reading oil temps with a mechanical gauge, or thru the engine oil temp sensor?
I'd say check the oe oil cooler first, as well before adding more stuff.
How's coolant temps through an actual guage, also?

Reading the temps through electric gauge at the HPO rez. Kinda doubt the stock cooler is plugged. Only been 10,000 miles since rebuild. I did clean it out

I opened the hood after it was hot one time, and saw oil in the valley........boiling. ?

Coolant temps seem to be in range. Dummy gauge

Um no. Get an actual coolant gauge. Not a switch like the factory "gauge" is

Running out of places to put gauges. The oil pressure gauge is sitting in the ash tray now.

I do have a coolant filter

Disclaimer: I did replace the coolant reservoir tank. Couldn’t tell where, but antifreeze was leaking somewhere. Looked to be around there so, I replaced it.

You really need to get a water temp gauge since you have filled block.

I think you have a few issues going on that will raise oil temps:
- Filled block
- Extra restriction in oil flow raises oil temp

Ah got ya.
Was thinking you might be mixing the hot oil from the IPRs back into the temp sensor but that kills that idea.

I thought back in the day, with the dual pumps, there was talk about putting a cooler on the return line. Just don’t know if anything ever became of it

Recommends to vacuum fill the cooling system. If I put a vacuum on the small line coming from radiator to coolant Rez, maybe that’ll help.

I’m gonna try to go to a pull this evening so, I’ll see what I can get done.

My 02 7.3 coolant temp runs about 195 to 210 when pulling the horse trailer and my oil temps run 230 to 235 most of the times. When we to to wy in August my oil temps will hit 255. Its never been a problem. I run 15w-40 CenPeCo I am running ISSPRO gauges with their own sensors.

I’m gonna try a cooler and see if I can make any difference.

I’m doing a “face lift” on my truck. New grill support and headlights. While I had everything off the front I rigged up the cooler. Right behind the intercooler and in front of the AC condenser. I’ll get some pics. Still need a fitting to finish the lines.

Twin HPOPs here as well but only one ipr.
I will get oil temps of 235 unloaded highway cruising...
New oil cooler as well.
Ditching the DS 208 deg thermostat for a 180 to see if that helps.
I have a few extra coolers laying around so if you find a way that works I would love to know!
Thank you
