Okay so I have a 2008 F250 it has some kind of electrical problem. It throws codes for every shift solenoid and it just loses every gear after a few minutes of driving. I’ve had a few different mechanics look at it and a actual transmission specialist look at it and no one can figure out what the problem is. We thought it was the internal harness so we replaced that and it is still not shifting correctly. We also tried to see if it was the main ground in the tranny so we put a ground from the case to the frame and it was still no help. So if anyone has any thought as to what it could be that would greatly be appreciated. Here’s a photo of the codes

None of those codes can happen from an electrical problem. So that eliminates wiring, grounds, etc. The problem is that all of the solenoids are sticking. That happens from a lot of contamination in the trans.

Did you change the fluid recently? If so, what fluid did you put in it? If not, you need to change the fluid. Sometimes that will clear up stuck solenoids. Use only MERCON SP or MERCON LV fluid. Anything else will cause the problem that you have.

Here is a good way to change all of the fluid: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1516093-5r110-transmission-cold-fluid-exchange.html

have you dropped the pan and had a look at how much contamination there is?

Yeah there was some in the magnet but not much all of the mechanics I’ve taken it to say that it is electrical. If I shut the truck off it’ll go into gear and drive for awhile then once it acts up I’ll turn it off and it’ll drive sometimes

Did you also change the filter? Early 2008s had a filter in the cooler line that needs to be changed, and an internal filter that is so coarse it never needs to be changed. Later 2008 and newer only have an internal filter, and it is superior to the internal/external combination of the earlier transmission. That filter needs to be changed at least every 60k miles.

If you have a fresh filter more driving may just clean the fluid enough to fix this. If it doesn't you'll need new solenoids.

There may or may not be another filter.

Early 2008 trucks had a second filter. In these trucks, changing the internal filter is a waste of money. In later 2008 trucks there is only one filter, and it needs to be changed at 60k intervals. Didn't I already post that? It seems in this thread I have to continually repeat myself.

When was your truck built? It's on the data tag in the driver's door opening.

Mark, can the earlier style two filter be converted to the single in pan filter? I would assume just new lines and the updated filter would do it?
