Broke a couple of vacuum lines. What are they for?

Heard an air noise under my hood and traced it to a vacuum line here that was broken. There are 2 there, when fiddling with them, the other one was brittle and broke too.

What are these for? Should I cap them or do they need to be repaired?

One goes to the vacuum canister under the battery, the other goes over to the solenoid to operate the 4x4 hubs. You can buy the new lines from ford for less than $50. Or splice them together
