Cat Oil Filter

Read on some forums that the Cat 0716/1808 oil filter would fit the 7.3..... this is not accurate. The thread is the same and the length wouldn’t be an issue on a lifted truck but with oil pan modification it is about 3/8-1/2 too wide.

All too wide without pan denting. Down to 8micron but too wide. Stick with Donaldson DBL or Wix/Napa 51734XE 10micron

Once you modify, parts that would fit on a stock motor, may no longer fit on a modified motor. But will work just fine with the original oil pan.

Will the Cat filter work with a stock oil pan or not? Or is he saying it won’t work with an aftermarket pan??

What oil pan modification? I use Donaldson DBL 7405 for cat engine, it’s large. Pending how you engine sits relative to cross member you may have to clearance the cross member with a flapper disc, so it doesn’t touch the x member. For reference it protrudes just below the pan on an OBS truck.

I tried to put the Cat filter on my stock 02 oil pan and it is about a half inch to wide. I would of had to dent the pan in to make it work.
