Default Official Tech section thread

maybe this will take off, maybe not, maybe sticky? well see

Purpose of this is to basically have all our techs chime in on all different brands. No I dont just work on PSDs, Im all across the board as far as light duty/medium duty goes.

Ive got a 5.2L Isuzu with major after treatment problems. Was at the dealer but customer pulled it out. Im tossing a new *** and SCR on. The *** was absolutely toast and suspect some sort of thermal event. I had soot on tail pipe, through SCR, everywhere, coked up.

while the exhaust was off I did several cold starts and throttle snaps. smoke is about normal, with a little puff of black as expected on enrichment. Injector balance rates are off as far as the dealer is telling me. They like to see ~2.5. Ive got 2 cylinders both hot and cold are 4.5 posi and neg. so those are definitely not helping.

after new ***/SCR was on, I cleaned the differential psi sensor and cleared some stored values. Within 10 miles my Particulate Matter gauge pegged and a regen started. I let it go since I couldnt pull off and shut it down. Theres no way this filter plugged, I only had 10kPa under a full load accel.

shortly after this i reconnected to truck and have a code for *** diff psi sensor circuit high, its now reading 110kPa engine off! So no wonder why the PM gauge is reading high as hell!

Waiting on the sensor now, that should fix this, but I am open to any other thoughts here on possibly why the prior *** that the dealer put on failed.

197k miles. 9300 hours!!

this is the OUTLET of the SCR!

A -4 and a +3.5. buuuut I've been told Isuzu only allows 2.5 just to keep the after treatment in good shape. It's honestly not enough deepeeeff for a 5.2L engine. So technically a dealer would be replacing these.

I definitely agree, but it is not the issue here.

I suggested something like this awhile back, basically for all the techs only to knock noggins on issues. Keep the riff Raff out and avoid the "well im not a diesel mechanic but hope you find your problem" commentry out of here....

Junk dodges.

6.7 with loaded *** codes. Can't run a gen, clear timers, idle it, 4300 seconds on the counter. Take it for a drive, stupid witech times out as soon as you leave WiFi so you can't watch your soot time. Halfway down the street it coded out and threw me in derate. Got back to shop, re cleared timers again.

Regen won't happen until 25000 seconds on the timer. So I cleared them and just held wot. Timer went from 100 seconds to 24000 seconds. By time I switched screens to start a Regen, it already coded out. FML.

Anyone deal with this?
