On the outer tie rod there is a piece that goes over the tie rod and keeps the adjustment from spinning I assume. Is it really necessary and can you just buy the piece instead of the whole outer rod? It looks like a double safety but I figured I would ask. Thanks

You don't really need them. It's just a sort of safety to keep your tie rod from seperatimg from the ends if the clamp bolt were to be damaged or loosened off

Incorrect. That little piece is used to keep the black adjusting sleeve, facing forward, when it is being aligned at factory. It has no Safety function! If it was a safety function, how could you say its not needed???

Well they ended up not being broken anyway. Place that did the alignment told me they had snapped one and was going to put a whole new outer tie rod end on it but it was not. Thanks for the replies.
