Recently purchased an 08 F450 4x4 with 4.88s and its a little more gear than I need. I found some axles with 4.10s from a 12 F450 and was wondering if I could either swap out the gears or axles to run the 4.10s. The axles are way cheaper than swapping out for a new set of gears and that's the only reason Id consider swapping. Thanks for any advice.

The 11+ rear axle doesn’t have the speed sensor like the 10 and earlier trucks do. So don’t know if it’s be a direct swap for you. However, you could swap gear sets between the axles.

Also the 08-10 450s are 10 lug with the Dana 110 in the rear and the 11-14 are 8 lug with a Dana 80 rear. The 15 and 16s went back to 10 lug.
If this is correct then i believe @Strokersace would be incorrect about being able to swap gears front and rear. Front would still be a yes since they are both Dana 60, but it sounds like the rears are different.

Three year old thread my friend.

But yes, you are right, the rear axles are different. I think the front is to. Being the 08-10 f450 used a beefed up 60. Yes ots also the wide track, but it's also built bigger.
