I know this has been asked but i couldnt find it. im about to buy a trubo but i want to make sure i know what year its off of. He says either a 06 or 04. but he says he knows it will fit an 03.

Is there any way to tell on the trubo that he could send me pics and i could tell.

I know the blades but i dont want him to tear it apart.

Also is it just a straight unbolt swap and rebolt

04.5 to 06 have a third mounting point near the exhaust inlet. 03-04 on mount from the bottom of the exhaust housing.

Yeah, nothing has to come apart.
Just look into the turbine outlet and count the blades on the exhaust wheel.
If it has 10 blades, its an 03.
If there are 13, then its newer.

The pedistal for an 03 is not the same as the newer pedistals either...but if you have the pedistal for the turbo...same year...then yes, they are a bolt on.

I spy the staked in removable silencer ring, which makes it the 2003 variant if I'm thinking correctly. Will work on any 6.0 but needs the 2003 pedestal to be right.

He is correct. I would say that it also looks like a 2003 by looking at the compressor housing cover as was mentioned. I also can't see the third mounting position that is on the later 04+ turbos. This turbo will bolt onto an 04+ pedestal but will only be held in with two bolts vice three. To me it's not a big deal. I don't even run mine with bolts (not saying it's smart but just saying). If you want the turbo, I wouldn't worry about trying to locate an 03 pedestal for it. No point in paying more than you need to IMO.

The pressed in silencer defiantly makes it an early 03. If that doesn't give it away then the clockable compressor housing does.
Beyond the turbine noise, that is the best performing stock turbocharger from all years 6.0. Largest/ lightest turbine wheel, largest compressor minor.
