Pulling up home today and I smell something odd, and notice a slight most behind me.
Quick glance at the Livewire and nothing odd, pull over, bright/neon green everywhere, below my alternator.

Did my A/C just take a dump on me? Running CAT ELC so that's definitely not it (Thank Baby Jesus)

it blows.... I live in Texas.
it's never been very cold, and today was fairly hot. Funny because I did mention to my passenger about 15 minutes before it happened, that my air wasn't very cold.

What else is green that smells odd? My best guess is dyed refrigerant.

More importantly, what other liquids are under the hood?

Most refrigerant oil is green. Especially with uv dye in it.

I guess that settles it. can't think of anything else under the hood. Now I gotta pinpoint the source.

Ac compressor is bottom passenger side of engine.
But follow the lines. Could even have a hose rubbed through on a intercooler pipe.

coincidentally my belt is down to about 3 ribs now, with 1 or 2 ribs flapping about. might have worn/slapped a hole into one of the hoses.

So belt, possible hose and/or compressor, and also investigate why the belt is shredding.

add that to CPS o-rings, steering box, brakes, and that awful wah-wah from the front drivetrain.

But hey, I'm studded!

Belt shredding is probably going to be tensioner pulley.
I'll have to inspect, it all looked good when I installed my alternator in December. Though this summer has been brutal, I wouldn't be surprised if the heat has escalated minor faults.

Finally took a look at the truck today.

Belt tensioner is cocked inward, causing belt to shred from the front. Everything else that J can see seems to be aligned properly.

Shredded ribs put a gash in the a/c line between the accumulator and the condenser.

Yay.

Any decently priced options other than OE? Looks like Amazon has the Motorcraft for $84. Would be nice to find a reliable aftermarket for less.

I don't think I would complain about $84. Lol
Take it to a local shop to be repaired. May be cheaper.

Hey rman,
Where abouts in SoCal are you? I'm San Diego area.

I've got a Vacuum pump and gauges. The R134 is a Autozone item...
Just need some PAG oil (and a new line...) too.
