This past Friday I ended up buying a early 99 f550. Clean truck for the most part. Needed a little tlc, it's got a 12ft flatbed and a regular cab 6spd. Just what I was looking for. The plan is to have a good running, reliable work truck yet still something I can drive into town when the need may be.

Build...

Stage 1 single shot injectors
TS 6pos chip w/tyrant diesel tunes
S&B intake
5in exhaust (made from scrap I had laying around)
Tinted windows
Cowl hood
Build a gooseneck hitch for it
Mount tool boxes
Build a 250 gal bed mounted fuel tank
05 Harley lights
05 grille
Fab fours front bumper

That's about it for now...I'll post pics in the a.m. And I'm sure I'll end up doing more.

Alright...here they are.

Here is how I purchased it.

The exhaust was rusted off and I had just enough spare parts laying around to piece this together.

It didn't have a gooseneck hitch in it. Once again, I had enough scrap steel to build this. Specs are 36"x12" 5/8" thick. Then welded 1"x2" 1/2" thick straps to the bottom of plate to prevent it from twisting or bowing under load.

Got my montazuma tool boxes mounted on both sides of bed with a chest box behind them. The fuel tank will sit in-between them up against the headache rack.

I'm still going to mount under body 30" boxes on both sides. There going to hold my chains, binders on passenger side and grease gun, rags on drivers side. Also going to build a rack on the bed to hold 5gal oil jugs.

Opinions are welcomed

Sounds like an awesome project! should make a great farm/work truck.

:whs: Sweet platform for sure!

That's kinda what I thought. A 8'ft bed isn't nearly enough by the time I cram all my sh!t on here. I also ordered harley head lights today and they will be in on Tuesday. Tires are coming off sometime before harvest and being replaced with 245/70/19.5 which measure out at roughly 33x9. I'm going to replace the front wheels with a set from 1st attack engineering. Super single style in a 20x10 and run a 33x12.50 to hopefully make the front end possibly float a little more on soft ground. Since this thing is 2wd.

Looks good brian.and everything is on its way!

Sweet. I'm looking forward to making it run better. This thing is a turd compared to what I'm use to.
You going to make out 4x4?

That would make it even better! Good lookin rig so far man.

I have thought about it. Nice winter project...I wonder how hard it would be? I know where a super 60 is, just have to find a transfer case. Damn you guys.

Can you legally run around with 250gal fuel tank in the back? Depending on the state I heard some don't want anything over 110gals.

I think you are supposed to have placards, but at least around here farm trucks won't really get messed with. A 110gal tank filling up a tractor or combine would be maybe a 1/2 tank

Nice looking truck man, we are looking for one similar to it. My dad wants an auto trans for some reason though.

Any thing over 110 gallon has to be plackered and have a baffel. Plus its not like I'll be driving around in town with 250 gallon of fuel. From the shop to fields or job site. Missouri is lenient with the Bs laws unlike the communist state of Illinois.

Why Not....there is a f550 for sale in Kansas city craigslist with a 10ft service body. Its a nice truck and if it didn't have the catch all body I would of bought it instead. I just have absolutely no use for them.

4wd swap is very simple on the F450's and F550's. The 2wd already have a straight axle. All you need is a Dana super 60, 271 transfer case, 4wd trans, driveshafts, and new u bolts.
