Hello all, I have never really posted here but I have learned a ton! Thought I would give this a shot and post the build I'm doing on my 97 7.3.

I've had the truck since 2007 and slowly upgraded and modified stuff since. The way it sits it has the Irate electric fuel system, T500 hpop, intercooler from a 2000 SD, and plenty of other small stuff.

About 2 years ago I did a bunch of upgrades. 250/100 from rosewood, Southbend DD clutch, Irate T4 with 366sxe, comp 910 springs, Smith bro rods, head studs, gear head tunes, Irate 3 inch plenums, and probably some other stuff I'm forgetting.

To the current build. Engine had a TON of blow by and a good miss when cold. Did a compression check, lowest was 245, highest was 360, average was about 320. Pulled the motor and found all 8 pistons had some sort of cracks, a couple looked pretty burnt, and there had been valve to piston contact on about 4 cylinders.

Found out yesterday the machine shop bored it to .040 over, said they had to. I dont like the idea of going that far over so found a new motor and I'm tearing it down to have it checked and bored to .030 over.

Plans for the truck. Planning on keeping the 250/100's for now but going bigger later. I'm doing Brian Crower rods, a girdle, de lipped/coated with valve reliefs for the pistons, beehive valve springs, colt stage 2 billet cam, and of coarse a full rebuild kit including coated bearings. I'll try to add a couple pics and I will update as I go.

The truck has just under 160k. I think it has been hurt for a while. The stock airbox was broke and the stock turbo had small pieces missing from the wheel when I took it off a few years ago.

I figured it would be cheap insurance to ensure they dont hit. They said it should be okay without, but I would rather not even take a chance.

Might consider delipping the new pistons to minimize chances of cracks.
Also consider this.....you are scrapping the .040 bore block to get a .030 bore which amounts to adding back .005 cyl wall thickness. Not sure that is worth it. Maybe if you were getting.020.
