Just wanted to share/offer another alternative to drilling and tapping the two little bolts holding pipe from exhaust manifold to egr cooler. It’s well known these twist off. I’ve not had much luck in the past drilling out twisted off bolts. I guess I’m not patient enough or don’t have the right equipment to do it. I know many are quite efficient at I’m, I’m not. Welded 5/16” nuts to broken bolts and unscrewed them. Ground to the exact piece you are working on, in this case, the exhaust manifold. Used 7018, welded bolt and let it fill up the nut. Let it cool a bit, and started working it out. Each of these came out by only welding one nut to each. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts to get enough heat to get the job done.

Are new bolts available from ford? And how tight are they supposed to be, if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks, Chris

Yes, I replace them every time they come out. I dunno what torque spec is, but 1/4 in air ratchet seems to do the trick. Judging by the size probably 89in lbs or something.

They break so often due to the heat cycles they see, and a lot of them are just flat out rusted in.

I have the no-limit kit but keep watching these vids and seeing the problems. I had a quote to install it for about 300. I had another shop quote me almost 750. I do all my own work and even priced out the Pro Maxx kit, which was 450 on sale. Thinkin it might be best to pay the 300 and pick up the truck the next day? Thanks

I grew up in an independent mechanic shop. As soon as I graduated high school, I got into another trade. Thankful for learning to be able to do most of my own work. That being said, I don’t see how the mechanics these days have the patience to work on this crap. I believe they earn their money.

Did mine this weekend and no issues. 2016 with 67k on the clock. I soaked the bolts for a week prior too.

Might problem is probably due to it is a 5/10 build with 194k on it. Made it to 184k when ***/exhaust finally gave up. Need to replace radiator, coolant fitting and line on turbo and figured I might as well do the egr removal at the same time to hopefully only buy coolant once. Exhaust valves will probably let go next.
