Running a Boss alternator from a 6.0L on my 7.3. Just shimmed
it up a little. This alternator had the same connectors, I guess they
all do..

So, this one went out in about 3-years I was wondering if I should
just get one at Oreilies or something. This one didn't seem to last very long.

I tow a TT some and it doesn't get really cold here.

I replaced my alternator and it ended up being the fuse that controls the alternator charging or not. I forget which fuse it is but I believe it’s in the panel under the dash.

And I would just get a stock alternator because they seem to last 5-10 years easy.

The 6.0 one has more amps from what I remember, kind of a easy upgrade as long
as you either shim the whole thing up with a few washers under each leg of the
alternator or grind some off the mount. If not the case will crack.

I replaced my alternator at Ford dealer in 2007. It lasted 4 years then went out just cruising down the highway. Had it towed to Walmart to get free replacement batteries since less than 3 years old. Drove to Advance and replaced alternator in the parking lot using borrowed tool kit and it has lasted the last 7 years.

I use O'Reilly's alternators also. If it is an easy to get to alternator, it's a no brainer. I was on my third one in over ten years on my truck. Total time to replace all three of them was less than ten minutes. All were replaced in O'Reilly's parking lot.
