Yea that's strange. I do know the nomenclature explanation is correct, that is how Ford named their transmissions.

None of the trans parts guides, like transtar or ATSG, ever list a non wide ratio gear set. Further the 5R110 always includes the w.

Thats the extent of my knowledge.
