Hi, I am looking for some help and an education in SXE turbos to pick the correct one for me. My truck is a 1999 F450 chassis parts are e99 engine is late 99. Injectors are Swamps Stage 2 Split Shot. I do not plan to change them in the near future. ZF6 transmission. Rear end gears were swapped to 4.10.

I drive it empty, pull a fifth wheel toyhauler, and haul antique tractors. Truck and camper weigh 24k. Truck and tractors weigh 24k-30k.

I spoke with a few vendors and tuners. I was recommended the 366 with a 1.0 housing by most and a 366 with the .91 by 1.

I was also told to jump on this forum and read up on the 364.5. From what I see it seems like I would be happy with either a 364.5 (80x74mm turbine) or 366.

Overall I am happy with the truck and it is running well. I am looking to improve the efficiency of the turbo and make more power overall. I have tunes from a few tuners and seem to be good. Plan is to be able to tow in a hotter tune with similar or less egt's to what I have now.

Not really interested in the kc turbo. Almost bought it a few times and decided I would rather switch to a t4 mount. Still trying to decide between the CSD or Irate kit and welcome opinions or other ideas.

Myself and a few of us have Carson's kit. It's very well put together. I've spent a bunch of time on the phone with him and at his shop. He's a hell of a guy when you talk with him. With those injectors I wouldnt go any bigger than the 364.5/74/1.0 housing. Carson likes the 1.0 housing for backpressure, (and it works well on my 366) and with all the more fuel you will have, you wont surpass the 364.5. Theres no reason for any more lag than necessary. (Not that there seems to be much difference between the 364.5 and 366 but still)

I gross 24-26k when I haul coal. I am also a manual tranny. I could not ask for a better setup than I have now.

You’ll want the s364.5 sxe for sure, being a manual, towing heavy, and not going with larger injectors anytime soon.

I live at 800 ft, NW corner of Illinois. I will be traveling to Arizona then up to yellowstone and back on a trip with the camper this summer so I will see a lot of elevation change. That is not the normal use though. Most use is in Illinois and the surrounding states.

I've installed a couple of Irate kits. They're nice kits. Irate's customer service is top notch, too.

I don't think you'd be disappointed with either the 364.5 or 366.

I’m thinking you should sell your 364 to the OP and put some of that money to a 66, then send the rest to me for commission. Just sayin!

I see they came out with a 372sxe now..
Saw it in one of the diesel mags the other day..
369 is not the big dog anymore in the s300 class.

So many options now.

So what would be the benefit of the 372? Faster spool? I can't imagine it would like nitrous very well. At least in our applications. I'm looking a turbo to run at 1800ft elevation, with around 650whip in mind. Felt the 472 was my choice. I'm about to order a turbo, just having trouble deciding. Not meant to derail. Carryon

What fuel do you have and what do you want to use the truck for ?
Stock fuel system. Will be adding a return from dead end of heads to bowl. At the same time as t4 kit. Will also add a fuel pressure gauge and change pump if / when needed.

I drive it empty. Pull a fifth wheel toyhauler and haul antique tractors. Truck and toyhauler weight is 24k truck and equipment trailer is 18k empty up to 30k.

With your current setup, I would use the 66 with a 1.0 housing. Mount kit is up to you.

If you were 3.73 i would say the .91 housing.

I run the 66/.91, 250/100 with 3.73 and 33" tires. Runs cool, spools fast.

Comparing the 364.5 with the 80mm exhaust turbine to the 366 what would be different in performance? From looking at the catalog I'm assuming that the exhaust side is all the same parts just the compressor is different. Am I correct? Has anyone ever ran them back to back on the same truck?

From what everyone is saying the 364.5 with 80mm turbine should be my first choice and 366 second but it seems like I'd be happy with either.

364.5 is what I'd do if it were my 450. I'd want all the response at max weight that I could get.

Mikeeg02 and I have gone back and forth comparing his 66 to my 64 and we really can’t tell much difference in towing scenarios. He has 238/100s and I have 200/80s. His is a zf6 with stocking size tires and I’m auto with 35s. He text me yesterday saying he sustained 35 psi in 6th gear at 2100rpm and 1075 EGTs. I’ve done 38psi sustained, but that was in drive at 2300rpm. Both of us were towing up a grade, him grossing 21k and me at about 19-20k. The only way to know is to try both, but either turbo will blow your mind.

The compressor wheel is the only difference between the 64.5, 66 & 69. That and the 64.5 is available in a 68mm and 74mm turbine.
