So my truck is an 2004 4door 4x4, the truck just turned 90k and i think it might be time to switch out the factory ranchos. My only question is should i spend the money and buy a nice set shocks, or will any set do the job? On a leaf spring truck do shocks make a big enough difference to spend the money? Or am i gonna have about the same ride no matter wat i get?

Thanks
Cody

Yes, buy good shocks 100%. I had a set of bilsteins on my truck anf hated how it rode. Installed a set of icons about 100k ago, rides 1000 times better.

I have Bilstein 5100's and like the ride, my piggy bank wasn't big enough for fox or icons though.

I put the bilstein 5100's on also, huge improvement over the stock shocks. Im sure the icons or fox are a huge improvement over the bilstein but I like the lifetime warranty on the bilstein.

When I get around to buying a 3-link, I’m installing those.

Still wanting to lower mine another 1” all the way around though. 4400’s and no rear block isn’t low enough for me now! Don’t know if I’ll need a custom length 2.0 shock or not?

You definitely need rear shocks. Front stocks are short enough for frame to Axle contact without any bumpstops.

If I would’ve kept the 250 I was going to put in 4,000lb front coils and rear drop shackles.

At that point though you need Kings IMO as you won’t have much travel and Springs will be soft.

I've had stock, Procomps, Rough Country, Bilsteins, Fox 2.0 and Rancho 9000's adjustables. As much as I hate to say it the adjustables are hands down the best ride I've gotten. IIRC I have my fronts set on 5 and the rears on 2.

Lifted, leveled, stock the best ride was w/ the Rancho adjustables. They are a PIA to adjust but worth it. I've had several people in the truck comment that it rides surprisingly smooth.

If you wanna spend extra, get the Fox adjustables. At least you can rebuild the Fox when needed.

So it sounds like maybe fox seem to be the most popular. My question is on a leaf spring truck is it worth it to buy the top brand? im gonna upgrade to something but do good shocks make a difference no matter what its getting put on?
