Purchased the upgraded cp4.2 injection pump for my ‘11 f250. Are these still prone to failing and sending metal shavings through the whole fuel system or did they fix that issue?

Should I buy the disaster prevention kit just to be safe or is it not necessary?

They never were failure prone. They fail because of contamination. Make sure what goes in the tank is great, and enjoy a long service life. That disaster prevention kit is a great marketing ploy-you will never see one on my truck...

Yeah I always fill up at a popular gas station and also use an additive. I’ve just spent nearly $10k on upgrades so I just really wouldn’t want to have to fork that out again to repair the fuel system

Pulled apart a few that had no signs of contamination.

Which leads me to believe that gelling, running tank low, and air kills them. They are specd out to run only 5 mins total life time with aireted fuel. Factor in half a dozen or so fuel filter changes and that's more than enough air to kill these pumps by 150k miles
