Anyone here done a sub setup in a truck with rear captains chairs? Don't know if there is quite enough room to get one behind one seat or maybe both and I don't know how much I'd love having a box sitting in the middle behind the console... any ideas or pics would be great!

Yeah that might work. I was thinking maybe just cut the bottom out of the console and mount a box inside there but afraid it might rattle

you shouldn't have any rattle issues with a console setup as long as its built solid.

I have a 12" 1000w subwoofer in my 08 console between the front seats and have no rattle issues. Only time there is a problem is with small metal objects like screws, coins, 1/8" drive stuff and what not. But that could all be easily remedied with some dampner applied to the inside of the plastics.

I would definitely vote for a center console setup, I would imagine you could get a sub in a traditional "truck style" box behind one of the seats, but having captains chairs already with a center console is just begging for a little extra.

I like your thinking on it needed a little more than normal, nicer setup! Any chance you have some pics of your console setup? I know the 08 console is quite a bit different but maybe it will give me some ideas

Yup I got tons of pics from when I built it.

This is the final product, it sits a few inches higher than the factor setups which I like, but I could easily drop it 2" without any trouble.

This is the skeleton inside before it got all wrapped and fiberglassed,

Cross section view from the rear, the bottom is the subwoofer box and the top is the storage compartment. Pardon the crappy fiberglass job, it all got worked out in the end.

underside, mounted using the brackets I had for my center jump seat

What this ultimately gives you is aproximately 0.93ft^3 with 7" of mounting depth, which opens up a wide variety of sub choices. Plus I still have just over 4" of storage in the top which for me is more than plenty.

there is also a guy on here, Snake, who has a pair of 10's in his factory 99-04 center console, a shop local to him built it. I don't know much else about it, but it just shows you there is room to work inside these consoles to make a pretty stealth setup.

Thats sick! but considering my woodworking skills pretty much suck and I have never done fiberglass its not something I'm about to tackle... Maybe I'll see if a local shop can make it happen but I like that a lot.

I'm converting my truck to 4 captain seats this summer and doing a full length box. Right now I have a bench in the back with 4 L7 12's and the seat moved forward about 4" I'm 6'2 and still sit back the fine but I like the idea of only 4 seats so I'm not the one who has to use his truck to cart everyone around haha. I'm going to make all 4 down firing and the top of the box is going to have my zx2500.1 under some plexi. The box will be as high as a factory 08 console maybe a little taller. Whatever feels comfortable.

I did not. I actually have a small but long box with 4 JL 8" subs in it that I am going to try to make work when I get the truck back from the body shop. I'll dig up a pic of the box. It should work well I think.

Edit: Here is a pic

That's interesting too, little 8's probably sound good in the cab, thanks!

Probably! I'm not big into a lot of bass. Just like a little bit. I had two 8's in my 2000 CC and it was fine for me. We shall see if/how this works if I ever get my truck back

I have a box that fits. It's about an inch too wide though. Seats still go all the way back and it fits perfect. Just need a sub now.

Yea, but I'm not about to build a custom box so that's what I've got. It was actually bought for me 2 years ago for an old truck I had and it didn't fit, so I kept it and when I got these seats remembered I had it and it fits. I'll be happy once I get the sub.

I have two JL 12W7's going in this winter. Custom center console right to the back seat.
I may pull the bench out, and go with buckets in the back, just for added room.
