I have read about the change in rods around january of 2016 production.
The photos of the upgraded rods seem substantial.
Is the January date based of engine production or truck production date?
My truck is a January 2016 production. I think 2nd week.
Thanks yall

Where are you reading this information? All I recall is it was being said the 11-16 rods are same and they upgraded in 2017 sometime with earlier 2017 trucks getting the original style rods.

I cannot find the link to where i saw this, but it was a reference date when i searched the part numbers of the old and new rods.
Of course that was a year ago.
I will try to find that and post a link later today.
I may just call my parts guy at the dealer and give him my vin to see which rod number is specified.

11-16 original style rod production officially stopped in Jan 2016. The newer rod (shown on left) started then but according to what Ford Engineers have told me, they didn't start going in every single 6.7 for 2017-2019 engines until about Jan 2017 because they were still installing all the older rods in engines to use up leftover inventory. Pretty much all late manf Job 1 2017 to current 6.7 trucks are guaranteed to have the updated rods. 99% of 2016 6.7 older body style trucks still have the old rod design. The few 2016 trucks that got the updated ones are slim pickings. Most 2017s that got the older rod design were F450 duallys because they were produced first for the Job 1 lines.

So this is apparently the newer part number—— https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-rod-connecting_hc3z-6200-a.html

And this is the older number—— https://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts/ford-rod-connecting_bc3z-6200-a.html

Here again I do not know the date my engine was built but i am guessing it may have either one of those rods. I wish that i had the tech look at them when they did my oil pan.

Your truck was made the same month those new rods started production. Which means your engine was assembled before the truck was, it always is that way with Ford. Plus your truck is a 2016... You have the older generation rod style. It's pretty clear..

2020 rods are different. Longer rods not interchangeable. SPE made a video where they tore a 2020 shortblock down to start looking at whats interchangeable and how hard it will be to fit a 2020 in an older truck.
