I have an 01 7.3 that I tried starting today and it would just turn over and there was a ticking noise that sounded like it was coming from behind the radio. RPMS would bounce once and a while while cranking. If I let the clutch out all the way while keeping the motor cranking then push it in right away the ticking noise goes away and the truck will start. Posts are clean, new batteries new starter. Anyone have some solutions for it that they feel like sharing?

Ok but when I pump the clutch and then the noise goes away and it will usually start after that.

I Had one battery that was weak. New battery in and it fired right up no clicking. I guess if a person does hear the clicking and pumps clutch while cranking its possible that it might start. Might work for other manuals as well.

Glad you got it fixed. Rule of thumb, when one battery is bad, replace them both. Unless of course you replaced both batteries last week and one sh!t the bed.
