So I got all the cladding removed on my wife's '01 Excursion and the new stone deflectors came in for behind the rear tires. Looks like they'll go in nice and easy, but was curious if it would be a good idea to put a thin weatherstripping along the top edge to prevent any rubbing of paint similar to this:

put clear vinyl on the paint prior to installing anything. Its thin, invisible and works. Anything you mount to the accessory will vibrate and wear thru to the metal.
