I just had a similar problem. I would turn the key and no starty lol. I thought it was the ignition switch because it felt like it was catching or something. What solved my problem was adjusting the neutral safety switch. I don't think a manual would have one though. I had an old idi one time that would start without even pressing the clutch pedal. They must have bypassed whatever switch it had. Maybe give that a try.

I just picked up the starter from a local shop. They replaced armature and brushes. $70 should fix the problem.
