just a hair over 200k. I have a 1-2 hesitation, and under wot on a hotter tune she just doesnt move out. Slips than grips, over revs, etc. Fluid is perfect and changed regularly. Been looking at the BD kits, very costly though. The ATS kits I see are just basic parts. Im also looking at torque converter and valve body.

I really dont want to have to change anything that I dont need to. I love the reliability of a stock piece. The truck never ever tows and is stock sticked. I dont have any crazy plans for it, it will probably forever be a grocery getter.

Really would like to get away with this for under $2k. Any suggestions?

Buy a ford rebuild kit and a converter of your choice and do it.

That'll be 2 grand. Twisted diesels stage 1 is a fortified stock build with better clutches. Sam wyse built my current trans and he offers a stage 1 that is cheaper than you can probably build one for. He may be fairly close to you.

Otherwise order clutches, or a kit from ford, or get one built. Having gone both ways several times Id never take ine out and rebuild it with fords junk but thats my experience. I find myself right back where you are in short time. Plus they arent designed to hold even tuning while towing. They get hot and crap the bed.

Oh. Ok. Well, a pos ford reman is 2800. The "hd" is 36-3900. If you really just want to rebuild it you should. Order the ford p/n and take it apart, hot tank, and put ut vack together. At best you'll kniw what you're getting.

I'm either doing it or it's going local. All of this reading about paying $5k for a Trans only to get ****ty service WHEN there's an issue doesn't sound fun. At least if it's local I can r&r and have it back same day

I can agree with you but how local is anyone to you?

I hated the waiting and having to call my builder and be a threatening dikk but im happy with my trans. Seems good ones are busy and scarce for time and the guys that are quick dont have much business. Go figure lol.

Im not sure where you're at but if 3 hours isnt bad maybe call Sam up and see if he can do something for you. 3 hours isnt too far and if something happened you could feasibly get the truck to him.

nobody well known in this world in the area but we do have 2-3 very very good shops. I was even thinking of the shop that we send all our customers to for trans work. these guys are by far not known for being specialists in performance builds for our trucks but they know trans' and are within miles of me.

Go on Amazon search 4r100 rebuild kit. The first one that comes up by Phoenix trans parts is a complete rebuild kit with raybestos clutches and all seals and gaskets. Go to torque converter one on eBay order a triple disk converter. Also on Amazon from Phoenix get yourself a transgo tugger kit. And a atsg book off Amazon and do it all yourself. I have this same setup in a stock injector 99 dually that never leaves home without a trailer. Dynoproven tunes. And it has been working flawless for me for over a year. The rebuild kit is $250. I think the converter was $300. The tugger kit is $110. And I think the book was $30ish.

If you have a welder you can make your own tools. Look up what they are they are very simple. A buddy of mine in Blacksburg made his own and they just stay at my house. He and I have redone my bts twice. His trans a few times and the one in my dually.

Simple enough. But is there a reason to replace the convertor when there wasn't a hard failure?

Not really I don't guess. But with 200k on it it's bound to be a little tired. Might as well start back off with everything fresh. It would suck to put all back in and the converter fail.

Yea... I just hate changing vital parts. I know mine works great, I'd kick myself if I got new and had issues

True. You really wouldn't have to drop the trans to replace a converter just unhook everything and slide it back. Stock converters are usually pretty weak but if you don't tow with it it would probably be fine. If it does go after the rebuilt and you have to replace it. Your not out of anything but time and trans fluid. But it is night and day difference in the stock converter I had vs the one I put it. Locks up much stronger and trans runs a little cooler. Do you have a upgraded trans cooler?

I wouldn't mess with it then. Just flush the cooler really good. If your converter is locking up fine leave it in there. Like I said if it goes your only out of a little time to switch them and fluid.
