Hey all... Noticed a smallish (3x6)oil drip under my truck today. Looks to be on my pitman arm, with no fluid anywhere else above.

Is this my Steering Box going out?
What are my (best) options? Found a redhead for my 03 for about $350ish.
Currently on 20x10 35x12.50, would like to go up to 20x12 on 37x13.50. Truck is driven on weekends only and mainly running errands and the occasional romp through dirt or mud.

Thanks guys!

I've been pretty happy with my blue top steering gear box.

Thanks. I think the smartest thing for me to do is wait until it either leaves me stranded, or I lose steering and crash. Then I can put it on a credit card and make payments for a few years.

my 6.0 maintenance list is so freaking long and so freaking old. 400 miles over on my pill change, but since I drive 2000/yr it's not a big deal..

brakes
front hubs or some other squealing
egt sensor
cps or cpt seals
fuel bowl o rings

also mods
power fold mirrors
f650 dash
more lift
new wheels
new tires

half of this crap has just been sitting in the garage forever... I need to get motivated lol

I didn't realize they were so cheap. I'll probably do it sooner than later. Truck can sit for awhile since it's not my DD

Seal is probably gone..

Red heads are hit or miss.. factory are hit or miss.. roll the dice and pick one.

I have a RH on my 05, had to send the 1st one back "for adjustment". I've had ford steering gear replacement in a bronco, 02 F350 and 99 F250 and they were all meh at best.

OP, like LL said, might as well get it done. It's cheaper than a lawsuit or funeral if you get into an accident.

Oddly people are usually happy with Napa units. Lol

f-it, if it works. I guess same thing w/ autozone or orielys since they have their lifetime warranty. But I will stay away from NAPA AC compressors :fustrate:

Could be, I've just seen quite a few people give up on Redhead after swapping many times and still not being happy. Then get a Napa one and seems to be quite a bit tighter. Lol

looks like I'll try the blue top first.

just curious as to why it leaked once, maybe a 6x2 oil mark, and nothing since

Is it leaking onto something else like drivetrain parts by chance? Would be very odd that it made a small puddle then nothing more.

from what I could tell, everything was dry other than the pitman.
I'll give it another look this weekend. haven't driven it since but sure could use it

Did you hapen to try turning the wheel with the truck off at some point? And where is the ps fluid reservoir for the pump orientated to the pitman arm?

nope, didn't turn the wheel.

Not sure what you mean with the reservoir. Stock 6.0 locations.

One thing I do, was a pretty impressive donut in the dirt. Actually ended up shredding my serp/acc belt in the process. was wailing on the throttle pretty good.

I dont know where it is on a 6.0. I stay clear of anything 6.0 related. Lol.. if it did it right after that i could see it puking fluid with the abrupt stop of the pump. Maybe...

anyone have experience with the Cardone boxes? I think vatozone sells them.

have not read anything bad about them. My Steering has had slack since I got this truck in 2014, would love to get a box that tightened it up.
