Im looking for some advice from people that have done their own external oil cooling setups. Ive read about as many threads as i can on the subject but I'm still having trouble finding out how well or not well everyone set works.

What i have so far is the BPD oil cooler ****** plate, a couple options for coolers and a billet earls performance filter base. Im planning for all -12 fittings and hose and I'm trying to keep the loop as short and laminar as possible to keep pressure differential across the system as close to factory as i can.

Im not positive if i should add an adjustable pressure bypass valve and or a high flow oil cooler thermostat.

If anyone can chime in with some experience in this area that would be appreciated

Check out IPR research. I just did there kit and I'm happy with it.
I came across that kit just recently. I couldn't swing the price for the full BPD kit and was convinced it would be able to be done this way with the ****** plate so I'm kinda stuck with these parts.

Do you still need a cooler? I happen to have a fluidyne cooler sitting around I had used for this very setup if you are interested. It' a fluidyne DB-30617 in case you want to look it up.

I have 3 options for coolers right now. I just picked up a bigger cooler than the mishimoto ones I had. But thanks for the offer

Did you have good success with your cooler set up?

Thats good to hear. I expect mine should work well, I'm also adding a high flow thermostat to mine because I'm concerned about the cold temperatures up here in the northeast

I used BPD remote mount kit myself. fairly easy to install. I used their coolant hoses and recently had one just split for no apparent reason. I would highly recommend using different hoses for those that decide to go this route . Love my kit,I have put 2 ADDITIONAL oil coolers on my truck and man the time it saved!!

Yeah I'm glad I'm setting up an external oil cooler. Would be much less of a headache if I just saved up some more change for the BPD kit before but I've got everything here now.

I switched out to a larger oil cooler and added a high flow thermostat from improved racing. It's a real nice piece and if anyone is looking for some quality parts they're worth a look.

Time will tell how well it works out for me. I'm trying to pick a filter that meets/exceeds the OEM filter specs. So far I think the overall flow of the set up I have will be pretty good and I'll update with some results of the finished set up.

Is that oil cooler from improved racing also? Where are you actually mounting the cooler?

The oil cooler is from Derale Performance and it's much larger than the mishimoto I had in there. It's mounting in the driver's side of the front grill with the thermostat in the left.

This picture shows the basic flow from filter to thermostat to cooler and back. It all fits right in front of the ac condenser and behind plastic grill frame

I'm running that thermostat on my 6.7 with a mishimoto 26 row cooler and has always been perfect

Any updates on this? I'm kicking around the idea of doing this also and would like to hear how it has worked.
