Cranking in neutral

I was pulling my boat this weekend. There was a red light at the bottom of a short but steep hill, so i had a good deal of throttle to it to get it started up the hill. At the top of the hill is the town square and a lot of traffic, so at the top I chopped the throttle pretty quickly and the truck just died in the intersection. It was still rolling "slowly" so I shifted to neutral to crank it and it wouldn't let me. I had to stop all the traffic, put it in park and crank it. Any way to make it start it neutral?

It should start in neutral. Your switch is misadjusted or defective most likely.

Indicator is correct. Where is said switch? I will bypass it.

I think that is controlled by the range selector switch on the transmission. I am not sure on that.

Thanks everyone. I'll have to look into that. I just thought it was some attempt at a saftey feature to not let it crank in anything but park.
