Remember when anything over 400hp was just lunacy on a stock 7.3 longblock?

Apparently some people still live there, lol.

Also, more people than can be counted drive 500+hp stock longblock 7.3's on a daily basis. Many of them towing, a few of them towing HARD.

I was one of them for a number of years until I cracked a piston. It was thermal, not from cylinder pressure but heat.

Never did I scatter that bottom end. The truck dynoed 544 in that state of tune and was driven MERCILESSLY for years. After the piston cracked I drove on the rest of the day, went to dinner and drove into the shop. A new engine went together and it was again driven MERCILESSLY once again, lol.

A honest safe bet would be 500 RWHP, others have made almost double that on stock rods and some less before they got spit out. But honestly if it were my truck I would do rods before trying for more than that.
