I'm with Wayne. If I am taking a brand new truck to have that done, I want it 100% PERFECT. No way to tell from the naked eye that it was not factory. All interior panels perfectly matching, body lines seamless, etc. That **** costs money.

You guys gotta keep in mind all the custom stuff people like custom autos by tim do beyond the cheap, easy route. They have a ton on time just in the rear door panels to make them match the front. You wanna add proper fuel door and wheel wells, and now you're talking serous mods and money. To have it done right, I think it's a pretty fair price. Can your backyard mechanic do it cheaper? yeah, probably. Gotta consider quality on a brand new rig though IMO.

Oh I'm not saying they aren't worth the money because there's a lot of work and time in a conversion like that I'm just saying I couldn't justify paying $43,000 for a conversion when you could have a truck and two regular excursions. But if I wanted a brand new excursion that's the only way I would go.

That's why I actually thought the cost would be much higher. I got quoted $4k for bodywork when I love tapped a tree. Got the corner of the hood, bumper, and fender. I already had new headlights to put in. That's why I figured a hell of a lot more.

I cant stand an old ex with new clip on it...the rwar wheel wells on that look worse that a new style bed dropped on an old superduty. In comparison. My cousin did a bed swap and I pointed the difference out. It drove him so nuts he got flares that cover the lip on the bed. LOL

^^^nothing drives me more batty than when some doof from the rust belt swaps out a '14 bed in exchange for his rusted out e99 bed. And everybody posts "ohh man that looks soo good!" Horsesht!!! Are we looking at the same truck!? Kinda like those damn harley heads, and chrome 07 grilles with a no foglight, dented in the middle 99 bumper. ;)

Yea. It looks worse having a 6.7 frontend on an excursion.

Id probably take a bed off a new truck if I could. One from down south off a 08-10 would be better.

One of the main reasons I decided on on '08 conversion vs. a 6.7 conversion is the wheel wells. I'm a little ocd on certain stuff, and having wheel wells from different eras would drive me nuts. It is a huge job to cut out the wheel wells from an '11+ super duty, and graft them into a rear quarter, and that's a job I wouldn't want, but would force myself to do if I went that route. Not only that, but I like the 6.4 front end better. If only it were more feasible to put a platinum 6.7 interior in the 6.4... Each generation has it's upsides, and I just can't justify the effort or cost to put them all in 1. To each their own though. I know some people couldn't care less about the wheel well differences, so for those people it's totally cool to do that. I'm sure there's stuff that I don't care about that probably drives others crazy.

this.....

the rear wheel wells literally have me up at night....I think what time we have into this truck, and what it would take to get it to the next level....don't want to go the cheap easy route, but at the same time, not sure we will have the truck long enough to justify new rear quarters. its certainly an undertaking....

Cleaned the EBP sensor last night and tightened up the steering box. It needed a full turn to get the slop out. I'm very happy.

Just picked this one up on a smoking deal, needs a hpop. It was left at the shop after the owner found out it was up for repo. Only has 136k on it. Body is super clean.

Just installed X codes in the front and will be installing the c-codes in the rear as soon as I have time. Used the airbags to get the right rake for now. Wheels are 20x10 Fuel Couplers with 35x12.5r20 Toyo MT's. Took some trimming in the wheel well to keep from rubbing but didn't want to go any taller.

Will be adding front and rear winch bumpers in the next year.

Ausm7499 I really like your setup. Just making sure that is all you have done is X and C codes to be able to run the 35's. It looks perfect.

Awesome! Wife's been bugging me for one of these but with a newer '15 front clip on it. Have to start looking, see if I can find a deal like you did.
