Anyone on here welded Boron? I have a job at work and for the life of me can't get this stuff to weld nice. I ask for info on welding it and was told to use what I have. Any tips on wire or gas? Everyone I ask said it can't be welded. Well it's made to be spot welded. I have a old timer friend who said it needs to be Tig welded with silicone bronze but the job calls to be mig welded. So any help would be appreciated!

BTW it's 3/16 Boron welded to 1/16 galvanized

Never ran into something like that before. There are a couple professional welders on here that might know though...

I'd say the old timer is right, silicon bronze is usually used to weld dissimilar metals. I don't see how it could be MIG'd.

I figure silicon bronze would be best but not what the job calls for.
Yeah I honestly don't think it's a material that can be welded nicely.

Yeah, I'm trying to get them to switch to it. But they don't want the copper color finish to the weld. I feel this is a losing battle.

Reading up on this a little it sounds like there’s no good way to weld it. Some auto makers are getting away from it and they’re looking at different weld methods ,like magnetic welding which doesn’t use heat. As for now looks like mig is the best way and spot it or stitch it instead of continuous weld.

To work with such materials, you definitely need to be a complete professional and have just a lot of experience, because this is one of the most difficult types of work that exist concerning welding. So think about whether you can do it yourself or you should still hire a real professional specialist who can do this job without any problems. You should also check his certificate to see if it is fake. One of the excellent training services is https://ratemywelder.com/welding-schools /. So if you come across a specialist with this certificate, then you're in luck.
