Starter "slipping"

95 7.3 the starter seems to slip, it engages my flywheel and you can hear it spinning and it barely turns over the engine here and there. IT FULLY ENGAGES THE FLYWHEEL! Just to clarify that it is not a bendix problem. It is like the gear is slipping on the shaft if that is even possible. Anyone have a similar experience?

Well i guess i solved my own problem, the ring gear is spinning on the flywheel...

You sure it's slipping and not the just the solenoid being rediculous. I had one that had a solenoid go bad and it wouldn't engage anymore but the starter would still spin.

Yes sir i pulled off the inspection cover and paint marked the flywheel/ring gear and cranked it, sure enough it slipped
