Valentine one, I have one and it has saved my azz a few times. My uncle that is a Mercedes mechanic in Greensboro, NC says that 80% of the cars that come in have a Valentine one on them.

:doh:LOL

Valentine One is the way to go. They are firmware updatable and show the direction of threat. You can turn on/off options depending on your hometown or the area in which you are traveling.
There are many different options to hide them as well. They have remote mount kits and Ive even seen some rearview mirrors that have the display built in them.

I just switched from an Escort and I like it much better.
I have mine wired to an aux switch so I can turn it off and on. The wire is ran through the headliner and the actual detector is mounted on the stem of the rearview as seen in these pictures with the old Escort.

They are a waste of money IMO. I have run one for a few years and they have saved me(from what I could tell anyways). Now that I'm a deputy sheriff, I have caught many of speeders that had radar detectors. They get you into more trouble than they get you out of (false sense of security). That's just my opinion...

The above is true to a point as well.

You still need to use common sense, no radar detector is 100% guaranteed to keep you from getting a ticket.

I don't believe they are a waste of money, rather a useful tool to combat the money hungry municipalities that live on revenues from speeding tickets.
They can also serve as a reminder to SLOW down or watch your speed.

:whs:

I don't really speed anymore, but my passport keeps me on my toes.. I have used Escort detectors for, oh I don't know, 30 years, and I have NEVER recieved a speeding ticket..

I run a escort redline mounted the same way in Shone's picture. It works great, now to defend myself. I did get a ticket running it, came around a blind corner flying and got caught. Simple as that, I had the defaults set up for here but in CO they have a lot more false x band stuff flying around so mine was always going off. Annoying yes, especially to a certain passenger that cried about it all day. LOL It was a simple fix, set my defaults differently and now it is quiet.

I run a valentine 1 here, saved myself more times than I can count with radar. Instant-on is a little tougher, but if there is traffic around it will pick it up. Only time I have gotten a ticket was with laser at night and I was 20mph over the posted speed limit. Laser jammers are next investment. The front end our trucks are giant laser targets, especially with all the chrome on the front of mine.

Discreet and radar detector don't usually go hand in hand, you need the detector mounted up high and level.

Shone, your detector doesn't look very level. Just sayin...

Other decent detectors are the Escort 9500 series, and the Beltronics STI driver. It comes to preference once you're at the levels of these detectors too. There is a good forum for this at www.radardetector.net I know myself and a few other guys from here are on there. William 04 X comes to mind...
