Posted this in the tow section but need an answer quick and figured I would find it here better. Hey guys looking to buy a 28' work and play toy hauler. Now I've never towed anything this big and was curious if this sounds right. The guy I'm buying from says I will need an equalizer hitch to tow it. The trailers weight is 8600lb. And the tongue weight is 1200lb. My truck is an 08 f250 6.4 extended short bed. So do I need this special hitch? Thanks.

The biggest advantage to those hitches are the load leveling and the trailer sway. I would also throw a set of airbags on your truck to keep it from squatting.

No way. You don't need a special hitch for something that light. 1200 will hardly squat that sucker!

Absolutely not, my buddy tows his 38' boat that weighs about 14,000 with the triple axle trailer and full of fuel with his regular cab f350 if his 6.4 450 is down and the 350 hardly squats and that trailer is balanced well, very little tongue weight, probably around 1200lbs no special hitch or anything required.
