Default Tow mirrors for OBS'S?

Just wondering if any of you guys have some different tow mirrors on...such as a conversion to 99 and newer on an OBS? I've seen dodge mirrors on an OBS and I just don't think they fit very well.

Looks good from the front, but you can't see from it the side How they did it make all the difference in the world.

I don't like far the base of the mirror sticks out it needs to be closer.

Chevy is out of the question. I like nothing about chevy. And the dodge mirrors....some of them are pretty clean looking install, but I just don't think they fit very well.

That truck is awesome, I added that guy on facebook just so I could see those mirrors, and they look just as good from the side as they do from the front, you could fool someone and say they were stock.

And I know we bash the Dodge guys for keeping them flipped up all the time, but you can see a lot better with them flipped up.

For a while I think it was weareweird69 who was trying to integrate other mirrors to look good when attached to an obs.

i had the little nemo mirrors on mine when i first got it and wanted the 4 point tow mirrors. to put them on the two upper mounts use the same holes that are there so no drilling there. the lower two mounts are the only ones that need drilling. i did them at home and it was super easy

I got the 4 point tow mirrors now. I don't mind em, just was looking possibly for something outside the box and seeing the different options.
My dad has a dodge and I love how you can see with that style of mirror. I just don't think they fit on an OBS. That's just my opinion though.
Just curious to what other people had and what not.

Yeah the mounts still needs a little work on the welding, but that'll come when it gets painted someday.

Do they block the view on the pass.side when flipped down?

Driver side is OK.

Only problem I'm having with switching too, is the 4 point mirrors that would leave two holes in my doors. Whats the best way to patch them if I ever did do a conversion? Bondo?

I see it the same as the super duty mirrors, everyone has their own preference. And its not like each time you drive your gonna flip/slide down/in or up/out each time you drive. Its one thing if they are powered but doing that manually each time sucks.

There 2nd gen tow mirrors, 94-02 I think. It all depends on the truck wether they can be left flipped up all the time or not. I feel you can see alot more with them flipped up.

Ehhh...For some reason they still need to grow on me though.
I will say clouse did an amazing job at moutning them and still being able to use the wing window is a plus!!
But still not quite sure if they are me. Deff doing to have to get them painted white if I go this route.

Clouse can you get some more pics up close of the mount on the outside of the truck. Several angles. I'd like to see the gap between the mounting plate and the window. Thanks

Swapping from the nemos to the 4 point mirrors leaves no extra holes when you are done

Hmm, apparently my 4 points are messed up cause i can't see **** with em, even if they are flipped out. When they are in part of the passenger side mirror is hidden by the the metal bar between the vent and regular window. Plus i can't fold em in when i park on the road or to go through a car wash.

But i did find our 08 mirror so i'm gonna have to mock it up and see how it looks.

So has anyone that's installed the dodge tow mirrors on an OBS, been able to wire them for adjustment and the defrost switch? This would be sweet. I know its possible but has it been done?

If this could be done, would make me like the dodge mirrors on the OBS even better. Im still pondering if I wamt to do this conversion. Pictures are great and help, but I think if I saw one in person it would help my decision even more.

I'm with you LawnRanger. I really like the look of these Dodge mirrors on the OBS, but want to see more than just far away pics. I'm all for fabrication but don't want something to look 1/2 azzed. Want people to come up close to the truck and not know that it wasn't done factory that way.

I'm also interested in anyone that has hooked up the power to the mirrors and if anyone of them have heated glass? That's one if the BIG selling points for me would be to adjust the mirror from inside the truck as well as have heat option. I know the 03-09 mirrors had heat, but not sure if the 97-02 did or not. To work with our body lines and shape of windshield, we'd need to use the 97-02 door mount. But if the 03-09 arm and mirror part is the same as the older style, then you could integrate the heat as well. Just some thoughts...

This is something that I will do someday. Will be getting rid of my 4 point factory towing mirrors. I like them cause I can see tons, but really like the look of the dodge mirrors. The flow well with the truck lines, can fold up, have power adjustability, possible heat, and can be color matched painted.

ill post up more pictures when my doors get back from paint and get the wiring all put together, the dodge and nemo mirrors both have three wires so i will just use the old connector of my nemo mirrors to still have the quick connect and look factory and for the heated mirror portion will just run a switch. so wed my doors should be back then i can put it all together!!! and the best part is the towing they stick out an 1 3/4 mor then my brothers 99 super duty pulled out hahaha

Look forward to it! Since mine didn't have factory power mirrors I've got to run wires for all of it, but it's not that big of a deal.

Has anyone got an idea for what these mirrors cost from a junk yard or new? I have stock power mirrors and plan on getting a set of dodge mirrors this spring. Just a matter of finding a set that is pre 03 and has heated mirrors.

I was driving behind a semi today and was wondering if anyone has done a pair of those semi mirrors before, they remind me of the older pickups with the tall side mirrors but larger. My guess is it would look good or horrible.

Been there, done that. I need something that folds in when I'm out in the woods & isn't quite so over kill. That being said nothing could hide behind you.

I went back to my power nemos which do "okay" for daily driving but aren't going to be worth 2 sh!ts with a trailer behind it.

Wow interesting, guess they would be great if the truck was a tow rig and that was it. Thanks for the pics, didn't expect that ha. Once I get my tax return the mirrors will be ordered.

Hey yoder what size metal did you use on the mirror plate? 3/16? And did you just fill the gap between the plate and the door with weld or something else? Just curious, when I do mine I want it to look flush and almost like it was factory after it is painted.

I'm putting the dodge mirrors on my truck tomorrow. My nemos will be coming off and for sale. They're color matched white, other then the chrome cap. Non-power.

I wish he'd post pics up on here too. Been wanting to see the details of the mounting plate, how to attach the mirrors to that plate, close-ups of exactly how much the plate covers the front of the wing window, and if there was any extra support added to the inner/outer door skins for strength or ridigity.

What about posting the pics from Facebook to here? Thats what i do anymore. I upload my pics to my album, set it to public, and then just copy/paste the image URL to here.

Looks great, but I would still be concerned about the water and debris that will get down in there.

My driver side mirror rattles on the door like a MOFO! Its just on the exterior sheet metal and its dumb how bad it rattles. I dont care for my mini window(forget the name ) I guess i need to order myself some Dodge tow mirrors! How much did they run for you guys and where did you get them?

YS,

Nice work buddy I've been watching the progress on a couple sites. I've wanted to do this and originally thought of the window idea. After seeing pics of that I decided against it. Your mod looks dead sexy and I am going to do that in summer time. How did you get power for the movement and heat?

the chevy mirrors look sharp but IMO they are to big for the trucks themselves.

What year truck are those from? Are they power? Heated? Do they telescope in and out?

Can we get some picks of the overall truck with the finished product?

Thanks.

Those chev mirrors look they don't show much for blind spots on the outside. Can they go wider?

WOW. Those Chevy mirrors look like a winner to me. I'm feeling those over the dodge mirrors.
I find it hard to get over the association with dodge mirrors and all the guys who run around with them flipped up. Although i dislike any thing to with a chebby those mirrors look to fit and function well.
I dont know if i'll ever be crazy enough to do something like that, but maybe on a different truck someday. I like my current mirrors enough.

I'm really digging those Chevy mirrors. Only problem is i'm basically the lone Ford guy in my entire group here, everybody else is Chevy, so i'd never heard the end of it if i put em on my truck.

I bought my dodge mirrors online for around 200 with power, those chevy mirrors have to be cheaper than that. They look good but no GM products on my truck for me.

Loving the chevy mirrors! Dodge mirrors are nice but come on, unless you leave them flipped out, you can't see out the pass. side. Do you have to have make the mounting plate or are these the stock GM plates?

I'd still like to see some mounting pics of either the Chevy mirrors or the dodge mirrors. Like how you get the nuts on the backside of the mirror mounting studs, etc.

I personally think the dodge mirrors flipped out on a SRW truck look just like they do on the dodges. But the look really good on the DRW, dodge or OBS. The Chevy mirrors look pretty good as well, but don't know how well they flow with the OBS lines. Look a little too bulky but could be wrong. They also look like they take a larger mounting plate and create more of a blindspot than the dodge mount. Like I said, more (pre-finished) pics would help alot of people's questions.

If I had the money to pickup some dodge mirrors and had a set of doors to build the mounts on, then I'd get specs to everyone as well as some subtle changes to the mounting plate to better flow with the door lines.

I don't have a lot to add as far as the aftermarket stuff goes. I do have a set of mirrors with a pair of sliders installed that lets the factory mirrors slide out about another 4" or so. I didn't like fiddling with them, but never saw the need for them either. If anyone is interested I'll dig them out of the barn and post pictures.

I believe 2003, it has power on it so that may be why the metal sticks out.

I think im just going to return the mirrors for 2001 mirrors, I know I can make them work but I don't want to go through the pain.

I took the studs out and got the right length bolts

Those chev mirrors appear to follow the body lines around the window then the dodge ones. Are they more skinnier on the mount?

Curious as to if you could move them forward a little bit more towards the circular area in the mounting location. So that way the circular piece of the mirror fits down in there better?

Lastly, how far can you open your vent?

Just got my dodge mirrors today. Brand new pulled of an 01 dodge when it left the dealer because my boss wanted to have power towing mirrors, been sitting for over 10 years. I got them for 10 hours of labor. Gonna look sexy!

Just to clarify Yoder, did you pull the vent window out and then weld the backside of the plate too? Or did you simple put the plate in there where it needed to be, weld it and then be done? How many of the studs could you use? or did you convert to bolts? It appears I can use 2/3 studs and then I bolt. Not sure what is best to do though?

Did yall convert over to shorter studs or bolts? The studs in my dodge mirror don't turn with my multitool, and I'm not even sure if they are supposed to. I didn't want to get a pair of vicegrips out and strip the metal, or bust the stud and really be screwed.

i just welded out side, prolly should have done both but it would be very very tricky to have it look goot and hold well with the crack you have to work with....
and i unscrewed my studs and replaced with bolts and Lock washers from NAPA

Fantastic, thats the direction I am going. . I made a plate today and removed the studs, I was sure they wouldn't come out but just took vicegrips. Mounts are drilled and hope to install tomorrow. Will update with pics tomorrow.
